Our Trustees in the UK are three English men and two Indonesian women. Although based in London, they work closely with friends and volunteers both in the UK and in Indonesia. Our different backgrounds and skills help to form a powerful team. Philip and Tatik make frequent visits to Indonesia to oversee all the projects.

A close knit family charity, we are determined to make a difference, however slight, to young disadvantaged children throughout Indonesia.

As we are formally registered in the UK with the Charity Commission, so we are now formerly registered in Indonesia as the "Yayasan Hatch-Barnwell Indonesia". This sister Charity is administered by Mrs Julia Ahmad and Dr Tatacipta Dirgantara together with Nur Wahyuni, Tatik's sister. We have known Tata and Julia for many years and have total faith in their capability and commitment to our Trust. Together with Nur they are a very effective team.

Funds from the Trust in London are channelled through the newly registered YHBI (Yayasan Hatch-Barnwell Indonesia) and in so doing, Nur and Julia can ensure that every penny reaches each project without any loss or dilution. Transparency is a key word in Indonesia and it is paramount to maintain the trust of all our supporters, both in the UK and Indonesia. We hope that browsing our web site will give you an insight into our work.

:: Endorsement By Dr. Richard Phillips CMG:

In partnership with his wife, Tatik, Philip Hatch-Barnwell administers the Indonesian Children's Appeal through the Hatch-Barnwell Charitable Trust. I have known Philip and Tatik personally for many years and have always admired their commitment to supporting poor and underprivileged children in Indonesia, a country which I have been connected with for almost 30 years through my work with VSO and, more recently, the British Council.

The Indonesian Children's Appeal is a small registered and reputable charity which has been collecting money for some years in London to provide education for needy children in Indonesia. They have virtually no overheads and all money collected, although relatively small-scale, is channelled directly to the people who need it. I worked with the Trust in 2006 to help raise money to support the tsunami victims in Aceh and the surrounding area. The Administrators of the Trust guaranteed and ensured that all funds raised for the appeal were delivered directly to the affected communities at their own personal expense.

Rather than getting involved in the provision of immediate large scale humanitarian relief, which by its nature is probably best provided in other ways, the aim of the Trust is to help communities to rebuild by working through established local community and Islamic organisations focusing on re-housing and basic education, paying particular attention to orphans and widowed mothers. They do this very effectively and it has been a privilege to work with them.
