August 2007
Many of you will know that Charles H-B and I,
(Philip H-B) went away on an extended sailing
trip in May and June. Then in July the entire
Hatch-Barnwell family met in Aceh, North
Sumatra for the official opening of the school
which the Trust has built.
Local government officials attended, together
with many parents, children and people from
the local community. We also had the pleasure of having Oliver’s
good friend Jack Cheatle with us. In fact,
Oliver and Jack spent two weeks...

March 2007
With the recent loss of an Adam Air flight, and the Garuda flight in March,
several ferries, and several more trains, all with a severe loss of life,
Indonesia is not the place for internal domestic travel at the
moment! Nevertheless, I have just returned from Kilometre Zero,
the most western point and the beginning of Indonesia on the
island of Weh or Sabang as it is more commonly known...

November 2006
Indonesia has experienced several more disasters this year
(2006) following the Tsunami of Boxing Day 2004. The
main earthquake in Java received some press coverage in
the UK but was overshadowed by the war in Iran.
None of the minor quakes and hurricanes in Aceh
received any press at all....
